A Little Slice of SW Florida History

The Honc Family is as much a part of our local history as the waterfront communities they helped develop. Vincent Honc moved to Pine Island from Czechoslovakia in 1917. The subtropical climate in Bokeelia provided him a nearly perfect atmosphere to sprout his small horticultural business. It was here that Vincent planted the first mango trees that have now become such an iconic part of Pine Island.
n 1918, Vince married a young lady named Ludmilla of Naples. Vince and Ludmilla had nine children. The youngest boy, John, grew up helping his father tend their tropical trees at the Bokeelia homestead. In 1950, John married Lillian Yahl, and began building a business and a family. Shortly after, in 1955, he founded Honc Construction.

Today, Honc Docks & Lifts has over 10,000 docks, lifts and seawall jobs to our credit. Our contracts range on a daily basis from $100 to over $1,000,000. We have the equipment and the personnel to tackle entire marinas or the boat lift in your backyard. We’re appreciative of every phone call we get and thankful for every contract we receive.

Although some of the Honc offices have moved out of Pine Island, John Honc, Sr. still lives on the original homestead in Bokeelia. The old cypress house was destroyed in 2004 when the eye of Hurricane Charlie passed over; luckily, the rest of the homes survived. We’re proud of our family heritage in the area, and truly believe that every dock we build comes with its own bit of Southwest Florida history.
